What is Profile in Salesforce?
A Profile is a group of settings and permissions which defines what a user can do in salesforce organization. Unlike the role, a profile is manadatory at the ser level. Also, a single Profile can be assigned to multiple user. A User can have only a single profile.A profile controls object privileges such as CRED(Create, Read, Edit, Delete). Create and managing profiles. Setting up and managing profiles is a way by which you can conventionally create a secure boundary that dictates user’s access rights.
A Profile Controls:
Field permissions (also known as “field-level security”)
- User permissions
- Tab settings
- App settings
- Apex class access
- Visualforce page access
- Page layouts
- Record types
- Login hours
- Login IP ranges
Types of Profile in Salesforce:
There are two types of profile available in Salesforce:
- Standard Profile.
- Custom Profile
The Standard Profile contains a default set of permissions for all standard objects available on the platform. For example, a Standard User can create and edit records while a Read Only user can view records, but not create or edit them. The System Administrator profile has the widest access to data and the greatest ability to configure and customize Salesforce. The System Administrator profile also includes two special permissions:
- View All Data
- Modify All Data
Custom Profile: If want to define your custom set of settings and permission for the group of users salesforce allows you to create your custom profile. You can delete a custom profile if no users assigned to that.
You can create your own Profile by going to Setup and search for Profile as shown below.
Click on the New Profile button to create a Custom Profile.
